Six persons were Arrested for various Drug Charges after a two day investigation. What started off as concerned citizens alerting police to possible drug activity turned into North Vernon Police Department’s largest Heroin Seizure to date.
Police were alerted to the residence located at 206 Seventh Street by concerned citizens noticing a high volume of traffic in and out of the residence at odd times of the day. The North Vernon Police Drug Team investigated the complaint and were able to secure a search warrant for the residence. During the search of the residence, officers located several items associated with the use of illegal drugs.
Jon Williams, 44, of North Vernon was Arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Syringe, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.
Samantha Bott, 24, of Dupont was Arrested for Visiting a Common Nuisance.
Kevin Yocum, 46, of North Vernon was Arrested for Public Intoxication and a Probation Violation.
Michael Stamper, 56, of North Vernon was Arrested for Violation of the Legend Drug Act.
While officers were investigating the first case, they were tipped off that a delivery of Heroin was to take place at the residence the following day. Officers set up surveillance on the Seventh Street residence and waited for the Heroin delivery. Officers set up a controlled buy and, at 4:23pm, witnessed the suspect David Carr enter the residence. Carr sold a bindle of Heroin to an informant of the North Vernon Police Department. Carr was taken into custody without incident as he left the residence. While searching Carr, officers seized 67 bindles of Heroin, 9 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine, 1 gram of Cocaine, 2 rocks of Crack Cocaine, and 39 Klonopin’s A Schedule IV Minor Tranquilizer. Officers also seized over $3000 in currency and a Ford Escort used in the commission of the crime. Police estimate the items seized to be worth nearly $7000 street value.
David Carr, 28, of North Vernon was Arrested in the second case for Dealing Heroin (class A felony), Dealing Methamphetamine (class A felony), Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic, Violation of the Legend Drug Act, and Possession of Cocaine.
Wendy Watts, 24, of North Vernon was Arrested for Visiting a Common Nuisance.

The North Vernon Police Department would like to thank the concerned citizens who brought this trouble area to our attention.
The North Vernon Police Department would like to remind citizens that if they notice a high volume of traffic in and out of a house for short periods of time to take notice. Whereas this may not be a crime it could be worth officers looking into it. Heroin possession is on the rise in the area. If you notice small pieces of tin foil starting to show up in your neighborhoods, in alleyways or apartment hallways please alert police. These tiny pieces of tin foil are called bindles by users and are the most common method of packaging. Small pieces of sandwich bags, usually the corners, are used for packing methamphetamine and cocaine. Generally called corner-cut baggies, these are common methods of packing and transporting methamphetamine and cocaine.
