Fraud at Liquor Store

On Thursday, January 31, 2008, at about 4:50 pm, officers of the North Vernon Police Department responded to a Report of a Robbery at the House of Spirits Liquor store on North State Street.

Officers arrived and took two suspects into custody. One of the suspects had been chased from the store, apprehended by the store owner, and held until officers arrived.

During the investigation, it was learned that the two suspects had entered the store and tried to get a fake payroll check cashed. The store owner recognized the check as being fake. The police were called and one suspect fled from the store. This suspect was caught by the store owner. Deputies from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department responded and assisted.

The suspects are now known as Mario Vedal, 25, of New York NY and Saul Yanza, 27, of Madison WI. Both are charged with Theft ( D felony), Forgery (D felony), and Fraud (D felony).

Both suspects are Mexican citizens and suspected illegal aliens. They both face possible deportation by Immigration Customs Enforcement.
