Detective Ivory Sandefur

At 2:44am the North Vernon Police Department received a call reporting a fight in the 100 block of North 5th Street. The 911 call said there was a man beaten and lying down in the Tripton Mill parking lot. Officer Matt Staples and Deputy Aaron Green checked the immediate area and found the victim about a block away on North 5th Street being treated by individuals for injuries he had received. The victim, 25 year old Robert Keith Hubbard, said he had met the suspects and had agreed to purchase a quarter ounce of marijuana from the suspects. During the potential drug buy the victim was beaten and robbed of his money.

While investigating the case, Jennings County 911 received a call stating the suspects were on North 5th Street. Officers took Nicholas Lee Canfield, 26, of Elkhart into custody for armed robbery and Tifanny Nicholson, 19, of North Vernon for conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The case was resolved quickly with multi-departmental and citizen cooperation.

Detective Sandefur and Officer Staples were assisted by Sergeant Nick Megel, Deputy Aaron Green, Sergeant Jeff Jones, and Trooper Randy Miller.
