SUSPECT:
Bryan Wayne Smith, DOB: 8-13-1980
CHARGES:
Carjacking (B Felony), Burglary (B Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (D Felony), Felon in Possession of a Handgun (C Felony), Possession of a Narcotic Drug (C Felony), Theft (D Felony), Residential Entry (D Felony), Operating While Intoxicated (A Misdemeanor)
SUSPECT:
Matthew Wayne Davis, DOB 11-25-1982
CHARGES:
Possession of Methamphetamine (D Felony), Possession of Marijuana (A Misdemeanor)
On the afternoon of Saturday 8-25-2007 officers of the North Vernon Police Department received a report of a person who had driven through a yard on Dallas Drive and then fled from his truck at the Energy Plus 24 gas station. As officers were investigating the incident a person matching the description of the suspect was located and fled into a residential area.
After a short foot pursuit, Bryan Wayne Smith was found by officers trying to force his way into a residence while holding a handgun. He was quickly apprehended without incident and was found to be under the influence of narcotics and to be in possession of the same. The truck that Mr. Smith fled from was determined to have been stolen from the Middle School Road area and was later released to its owner.
This incident coincided with a carjacking investigation that the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department was investigating in the Hayden area in which Mr. Smith allegedly stole a small Pick-up Truck at Gunpoint and then fled the area. The truck was later recovered in the area of Middle School Road. The clothing that Mr. Smith was wearing during the carjacking incident was later recovered behind the Energy Plus Gas Station.
As deputies were processing the first stolen vehicle, they located narcotics as well as several pieces of narcotics paraphernalia that were determined to be the property of the vehicle’s owner, Matthew Wayne Davis. Mr. Davis was Arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana.
