On Thursday, July 26th, 2007, at about 10:30 PM, Officers from the North Vernon Police Department were following up on information that was given by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department concerning a possible robbery being planned in our area. Officer were given the names and vehicle description of those persons that could be involved.
While in the area of the possible victim business, an Officer spotted the suspect vehicle being driven by David Allen Calvert, 20, of Scottsburg Indiana. The Officer followed the vehicle for a short distance until it parked and then made contact with the driver. During the investigation of the subjects in the vehicle and information given, a sawed off shotgun and a BB Gun were found in the vehicle. All subjects in the vehicle were charged and arrested ( see specific charges below). David Allen Calvert, Tina A. Jewell, 32, of Scottsburg Indiana, Joseph Allen Cole, 19, of Edinburgh Indiana, and a 17 year old Male were all handcuffed and transported to the Jennings County Jail where they were interviewed by Detectives from the North Vernon Police Department and by Detectives from Hanover Police Department and Franklin Police Department.
The 17 year old male was also found to have a hypodermic needle on him. His charges are as follows: Dangerous Control of a Firearm (C Felony), Possession of a sawed off shotgun (D Felony), Possession of a Hypodermic Needle (D Felony), False Informing D Felony). The 17 year old was transported to the Johnson County Detention Center.
The following were all remanded to the Jennings County Jail after being interviewed:
David Allen Calvert, age 20, of Scottsburg Indiana: Dangerous Control of a Firearm (C Felony), Possession of a sawed off shotgun (D Felony).
Tina A. Jewell, age 32, of Scottsburg Indiana: Dangerous Control of a Firearm (C Felony), Possession of a sawed off shotgun (D Felony).
Joseph Allen Cole, age 19, of Edinburgh Indiana: Dangerous Control of a Firearm (C Felony), Possession of a sawed off shotgun (D Felony).
North Vernon Officers involved in this investigation were Officer Matt Staples, Officer Keith Messer, Sgt. Nick Megel, Detective Gary Driver and Detective Ivory Sandefur.
