On February 19, 2007 at about 5:30am officers of the North Vernon Police Department were dispatched to West O & M Avenue on a report of a Robbery that had just occurred.
Officers arrived a couple minutes later only to find the suspect had fled the scene. The victim reported that she was awakened by someone breaking into her home.
She was confronted by a male subject who made threatening comments while displaying a hammer. The suspect then stole the victim's wallet and fled the house.
Officers discovered two sets of shoe prints in the snow and were able to track the suspects to a nearby house where a hammer was found laying outside in the snow. After speaking to the residents of the house, officers took two 17 year old suspects into custody without incident.
Detectives interviewed the suspects and were able to obtain information from the interviews along with physical evidence left at the scene of two other crimes that occurred overnight. The suspects have been connected with a burglary at D & J Mower Sales and an attempted burglary at Tripton Mill, both of which occurred overnight.
Both are from North Vernon and are being held in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center.
