On Friday December 29th, at about 10:00 PM, officers from the North Vernon Police Department were notified to be on the lookout
for Michael James Jordan, 33, of Greensburg. Mr. Jordan was reported as an Escaped Inmate from the Decatur County Jail earlier in the day.
Reserve Officer Aaron Green spotted the vehicle Mr. Jordan was driving pulling into a local business lot. Just after being spotted, backup officers
arrived in the area and attempted to stop Mr. Jordan.
Mr. Jordan refused to stop for the officers and fled driving northbound on State Road 3. Mr. Jordan continued fleeing on State Road
3 and entered Decatur County. Once in Decatur County, assisting units from the Indiana State Police, Decatur County Sheriff's Department and Greensburg Police Department were able to deploy a tire deflating device in the area of Letz. This caused Mr. Jordan to lose control of the vehicle he was driving and crash just off the roadway a short time later. The chase lasted about 12 minutes and covered 20 miles. The chase reached top speeds of over 100 miles per hour. Officer Brian Taylor and Officer Craig Kipper were the lead officers when Mr. Jordan crashed and quickly took him into custody with no resistance.
After his capture, Mr. Jordan was found to have been under the influence of alcohol and was driving a stolen vehicle. Pending
charges include Resisting Law Enforcement by Fleeing in a Vehicle (Felony), Operating While Intoxicated, Criminal Recklessness,
Reckless Driving, and Possession of Stolen Property along with facing Escape Charges in Decatur County.
The North Vernon Police Department recognizes the assistance of the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Decatur County
Sheriff's Department, Westport Town Marshall's Department, Indiana State Police, and Greensburg Police Department and thanks
their members who were involved in the pursuit.
