Jennings County High School Student Arrested after Stabbing

On December 4, 2006 at about 8:30am officers of the North Vernon Police Department were dispatched to Jennings County High School on a report of a student being cut with a knife.
While enroute to the call, officers learned the suspect had left the school on foot. Officers were not able to locate the suspect after a quick search of the area.
The 16 year old victim who received a cut to the neck was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital but was then transferred to Columbus Regional Hospital. Investigators began interviewing witnesses who identified the suspect as a student at JCHS.
Dispatch received a tip of a possible location of the suspect. Officers converged on the Hidden Cove Apartments / CR 240 North area and located the suspect who was taken into custody without incident.
Numerous interviews have been conducted with witnesses and with the suspect. Valuable information has been received from all the interviews that have been conducted. Officers also collected several items of evidence which includes the weapon used during the attack.
The 16 year old male suspect is being held in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center. He is being held on a Preliminary Charge of Attempted Murder. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
The JCHS Administration and staff have been extremely helpful during this investigation. Their assistance made this investigation go as smoothly as it possibly could have.
Departments assisting were Indiana State Police, Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Jennings County Prosecutor's Office, and Jennings County Probation Department.
