Phone Scams

The North Vernon Police Department has recently received several calls from concerned citizens reporting phone calls from persons claiming to represent Banks or other Financial Institutions and requesting their bank account numbers.

The Police Department reminds all citizens of North Vernon that it is not normal procedure for your bank to call and request any account numbers by phone and any request similar to this should be regarded as suspicious.

Some of the reported calls have described the calling person as very persistent in getting the bank account information. If you have any doubt that the call is fraudulent in nature, request a name and a call back number from the person you are talking to and do not give any account numbers out over the phone.

If you should give out you account numbers and believe that the call was a scam, contact your bank as soon as possible to protect your account.
