On Sunday, November 19th, at about 8:30am, officers of the North Vernon Police Department responded to an emergency call of a house fire at 116 Franklin Street. The home was completely engulfed by the time officers arrived and the structure partially collapsed shortly after they arrived. The North Vernon Fire Department, arriving a short time after the officers’ arrival, extinguished the fire and kept it from spreading to neighboring houses.

Once the fire was out, three adults and one toddler were found dead in the home. These persons have not been identified at this time. Those identifications will be made by the Jennings County Coroner.

At this time the North Vernon Police Department and North Vernon Fire Department are working with the Jennings County Prosecutor's Office, State Fire Marshal's Office, and State Police to investigate the cause of the fire.
