On October 15 at 3:15am officers of the North Vernon Police Department Arrested Tosca Huelsman, 28, of North Vernon on charges of Operating While Intoxicated and Operating with a BAC of 0.15 or greater. Both are Class A Misdemeanors.
Officer Keith Messer was on routine patrol when he noticed a truck sitting on Greensburg Street at South State Street. Officer Messer continued his patrol but when he drove by a few minutes later the truck was still sitting in the same spot. He decided to speak with the driver to make sure everything was alright.
As he pulled onto Greensburg Street, the driver apparently saw the police car and began to drive away. She drove straight ahead crossing South State Street traveling across the Harmon Construction parking lot, through some landscaping and right through the front of the building. The only portion of the truck remaining outside the building was from the rear axle.
Officers reported that Ms. Huelsman was not able to provide a reason as to why this happened. She later provided a breath test which registered 0.22% which is nearly three times the legal limit. Damages to the building and office area of Harmon Construction were estimated at $40,000.
