On June 23, 2006 North Vernon Police began investigating a robbery that occurred at Indiana Members Credit Union. A male subject entered the bank, handed the teller a note which demanded money and threatened harm. The teller was able to press the silent alarm so the man left before getting any money.

On July 26 North Vernon Police and the Greenwood Police Department began comparing their bank robberies. It was determined the same individuals were responsible and possibly linked to bank robberies in Plainfield and Marion County.

On August 2 Det. Randall Marshall and Ivory Sandefur attended a task force meeting at Greenwood that involved the above named agencies along with the FBI. At this time it appeared there were at least five bank robberies that were connected. Greenwood had developed two persons of interest: Kenneth Dillingham, 42, of Columbus and Robert Hicks, 43, of Beech Grove.

There was a fingerprint on the robbery note that had not been identified. The Greenwood Police Department analyzed our print and compared it to Hicks' and it returned as a positive match. Other agencies had informants working and we were trying to connect these two suspects to all the other bank robberies.

On August 7, there was a bank robbery in Greenfield in which Dillingham was arrested but Hicks was able to avoid capture.

On August 8, Det. Marshall and Brian Taylor interviewed Dillingham. He was cooperative during the interview and made statements implicating himself as well as Hicks. He even told us what he looks for in a bank prior to committing a robbery.

On August 11, Det. Marshall received information from Greenwood that Hicks had turned himself in and was in the Hancock County jail. Det. Marshall interviewed Hicks who was also cooperative and made statements that implicated himself in our robbery.

The report has been sent to Jennings County Prosecutor Gary Smith. Charges are expected to be filed within the next few days.
