Officers of the North Vernon Police Department are investigating the death of Jeffery Moore, 41, of North Vernon. At about 1:30pm officers were dispatched to the City Dam to look for Mr. Moore who had made comments of committing suicide.
Officers found some personal items of Mr. Moore on a rock ledge several feet above the water. Officers requested the help of Indiana Conservation Officers, Rescue 20, and local Fire Fighters.
A shoulder to shoulder walking search was conducted in the river at the base of the dam without finding Mr. Moore. There was one section that was too deep for the walkers so Conservation Officer Bill Beville and two Conservation divers began to search that spot. At about 6:30pm, just as they started the search,
Mr. Moore was located.
Coroner Gene Rudicel came to the scene and took control of the body. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death and ensure there was no foul play involved.
North Vernon Officers involved were Assistant Chief Jack Hatton, Lt. James Webster, Detectives Ivory Sandefur, Randall Marshall, and Brian Taylor, Officers Mike Hardwick, Jeff Day, Todd Fleetwood, Keith Messer, and Joe Vawter.
