Attempted Bank Robbery in North Vernon

On June 23, 2006 at about 1:50pm officers of the North Vernon Police Department were dispatched to the Indiana Members Credit Union (formerly Capital Plus Credit Union) on Buckeye Street to investigate a report of an attempted robbery.

According to bank employees, a male subject entered the bank and handed an employee a note indicating he was robbing the bank. Upon receiving the note and reading it, the employee was able to activate the alarm. At this point the suspect walked quickly out of the bank moving in the direction of Moir Apartments.

A witness in the area of Moir apartments described seeing an older model maroon Buick or Oldsmobile passenger car leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

There were no customers inside the bank at the time of the attempted robbery. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
