Reserve Officer Howard and Officer Anthony B. Burton were killed when their cruiser was rammed by a man who was free on bond following an earlier standoff with police.


Patrolman Edward P. Fowler
Officer Fowler was shot on September 21, 1925 at 1:20
AM as he approached 2 suspicious men on the edge of town.
The men, unknown to officer Fowler, were car thieves and
shot officer Fowler 2 times in the stomach. Officer Fowler
returned fire. Later that day officer Fowler died. Hundreds
of outraged towns people responded for the manhunt.
The killers were never found.


Officer Frank T. McKinsey

January 1, 1915
Officer McKinsey was shot and killed while attempting to arrest two robbery suspects at B&O Railroad Depot. As he placed the first suspect under arrest he was shot three times. Officer McKinsey had been with the agency for four years and was survived by his wife and two children.


Marshall Gustive H. Schwake
September 23, 1903
The suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, had been quarrelling with his wife, and as the dispute escalated, he attempted to kill her with a knife. When Marshall Schwake arrived to question the suspect, he was found sitting in his front yard, armed with a shotgun. As Marshall Schwake approached, the suspect shot him in the head and chest. Marshall Schwake had been with the agency for 1 1/2 years and was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
